An Explanation of the Way Things Are, 2022
watercolor, crayon, ink and gouache on paper

These works are built over long stretches of time—often six months to a year—without a fixed plan. Each begins with a single point of entry, then expands through a process of returning, responding, and continuing.
Their scale allows them to function almost like a journal. Anything encountered along the way can find its place—an image, a memory, a color, a passing interest. Over time, they become accumulations of attention rather than illustrations of a single idea.
There is no prescribed narrative. Instead, the work moves toward a kind of internal coherence—where disparate elements sit together, not to resolve, but to remain open.
For me, they hold time. They are records of seasons, built slowly enough to be entered and re-entered, both in their making and in their viewing.
They allow me to always have something to return to—something already in motion.
